Wyoming June Visit Part 2!

Monday, June 10

Briefly after waking and feeding midgets, I get a call from the cabin.  Grandpa has just been stung by a yellow Jacket.  Could I please come up and bring some Allergy medicine with me? With great haste, the midgets and I load up in the family truckster and head south to Trapper Park.  Grandpa generously sedates himself with about 4 Benadryl as he is allergic to wasps and bees and that sort...

The kids and I head down to the 'kid's cabin' to throw rocks in the pond.  The boys delight in the sights of 'gold' rocks (Nathan is quite sure that all of the rocks must contain gold, after visiting the gold mine tour.) He starts a large collection of his favorites - including crystals that must be worth thousands of dollars.  (A fortune seeker for sure!) We spy on birds and butterflies.  The boys let their hands soak in the trickle of the stream.  Pop comes down to check on our progress for a few minutes, before returning to help Lynn work on the Zip Line Cable stuff.

Before long, Nathan has discovered the spongy, squishy moss.  He studies it for an extended amount of time.  Meanwhile, Ashton is deliberately figuring out how to produce the most splash, and closest to mom, he can find with various sized rocks.

magical little area

Where we spend hours and hours of discovering.
For lunch I make grilled cheese with a dis-formed blob of brand new cheese (and old butter I should've tasted first.)  I notice the produce is a little 'squishy' and the two full baskets of strawberries that are all rotten out side are another indication that perhaps the groceries purchased on Friday at Reams, have indeed been sitting in the car for several days with no attention or refrigeration.  Later that night, for dinner, I made some tasty tacos.

Grandpa continues in his groggy state and sleeps much of the day, though we do take a little time to visit about his recent trip to Texas.

Monday night means "The Voice" on NBC, so I watch the top 5 compete before hopping into bed.  As i watch the boys and Dad are out on the porch.  Pop, on the phone, and the little boys running to and fro across the deck playing wild little chase games.

We sleep at the cabin that night.  I turned on the heater for the boys' room, and SHOULD have put one on in my room, too.  At 1:30 in the morning I wake up shivering from cold!! I put on all the shirts I can find (I didn't have PJ's but luckily we'd left clothes there at Christmastime for the boys to wear, after their showers, to bed) and try to warm up.  Eventually I sleep.

Tuesday
The next day we head down off the mountain - Amy's brother Eric is in town with his girlfriend, Kami.  (I know, it's with a K, but I don't hold that against her.) I help get the new horse in from the pasture so that she can get shoes on. The boys watched a movie at the house and ate lunch with me checking in on them between visits with the horse shoer.

That night we line up a sitter for the kids, order them a pizza, and hit Star Trek at the theater.  It's GREAT!  I'm not a huge TREK person, but this was a really good flick. Grandpa joins us, but in the back of the theater, because we were sitting pretty close to the screen.  However, it's about 11:30 before I get boys home and back into bed.

Wednesday
Pop heads back to Utah to pick up the picture I had given him for father's day, apparently it is framed and ready to come home. (It does come home looking stellar, I must say.  The frame is great, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.) He also thinks it might be fun to have a BBQ on Saturday at the Cabin, as the Hulets will be in town after completing the handcart trek.  And Brooke will be in town, coming home from Jackson from a Bar Commissioner meeting with Wes. And he might introduce a friend to us at that time. And could I please work with the girls in the office to get a cleaner for the house and the cabin?  And, maybe plant some flowers in the poor desolate looking pots? And write up a grocery list, because he'll hit Costco and be back by Thursday.

I work with the girls in the office, and no one can commit to cleaning.  At least not today - maybe they can find some time on Saturday.  Huh, okay, no cleaner.  Well, I'm already on my way to the nursery by then to pick out plants.  Nathan is a natural plant picker outer of flowers!

For two days we plant, and scrub and sweep and spray and wipe and dust and mop and then, because we ran out of flowers, we went and purchased and planted some more.  Nathan is a GREAT little helper.  He helped me clean every bathroom, and did some vacuuming.  Ashton helped pick up toys and organize laundry and was good about staying in the playroom with his things.  I even moved furniture and put together a bedroom for a room that was recently recarpeted.  We were hard little workers.

By about 4:00 on Thursday Grandpa called to say that he was on his way to Costco, and what should he pick up.  At which point I told him to just stay the night (as he likely would anyhow, given the late hour) so that he could have fresh groceries in the morning before heading home.  That sounded like a 'great idea' to him.

We also watered horses, moved panels so they would have SOMETHING to eat and then finally late in the evening decided to move a hungry Shimmer and her colt to the field where the Barney pony, Cocoa, is staying.  I led Shimmer and the boys followed behind her colt so as to keep him coming along.  The colt bucked and played along glad to have grass under his feet.  Shimmer dragged along, trying to rip out every ounce of long green grass she could get her teeth on along the trail.  Cocoa was happy to have company.  And the other horses in the corrals were missing their friends, all night long, loudly.  We heard them through the open windows.

I called Brooke Thursday to see her plans for the following day in Jackson.  SHE WAS FREE!!  It was settled.  The boys and I would have a day trip to Jackson the next day!!

Wyoming Visit Part 3 is coming soon.
